Welcome

to Art Therapy House and Garden

Making art creates space to explore emotions, deepen self-awareness, and consider different perspectives.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy uses art-making as a way to explore experiences, emotions, and relationships. It is a type of psychotherapy, not dissimilar to counselling. However, instead of relying primarily on talk-based techniques, we often use various art materials. You will always have a choice in how you engage in art-making, though your therapist may sometimes recommend a certain material that they believe may help you based on how it engages your brain and body.

You don’t need to be “good at art” — the focus is on process, not product.

Art therapy can support people to deepen self-awareness, explore personal and relational challenges, and gain insight through creative expression. Making art can open up new ways of understanding thoughts, feelings, and experiences that may be difficult to put into words.

Our art therapists are trained in counselling and the intentional use of art materials, informed by the Expressive Therapies Continuum (ETC). This means materials are chosen with care, based on an understanding of how different creative processes can influence emotion, thinking, and emotional regulation.

Art therapy is more than play. It is a purposeful, relational process that supports insight, meaning-making, confidence, and wellbeing, and is suitable for people of all ages.

Who we are

Art Therapy House and Garden has been created with community at its heart.

We are a group of independent, registered art therapists who believe in the healing power of art and nature. Our indoor and outdoor spaces provide the setting for person-centred, trauma-informed creative arts therapy. We are trained in the intentional use of art materials to enhance the mental and emotional well-being of children, young people and adults. We prioritise safety, connection and autonomy.

Individual Sessions

Individual art therapy sessions offer a personalised and supportive therapeutic experience.

Working one-to-one with a trained art therapist, sessions are tailored to your needs, pace, and goals. The art therapist responds to what you bring, guiding the use of art materials and creative processes in ways that support reflection, expression, and growth.

Group Sessions

Group art therapy sessions offer an affordable way to access art therapy in a supportive, shared space.

Each session is gently guided by a trained art therapist, who introduces different ways of making and approaching art. Group sessions support connection, creativity, and reflection, while respecting each participant’s individual experience.
